(freedom, freiheit)

by Ann-marie JMcC, 2024

Your power – to occupy my land, my heart, my mind

Your power to take what you consider to be mine,

Rearrange the letters, the rules, the borders

Relabel the terms, take all that I have with one wave of your hand.

My power, my love, my grace, my words,

Without labels, lines or boundaries

Are mine so safe and snug, no person can not touch

My choice to be free, when all around is shattered

And love despite the pain when all outside is tainted

Your delusion so it seems, you missed the definition

That you once owned anything at all other than your intention

You handed all the power that was afforded you once

In exchange for your fear, to think you could occupy the precious

Your deeds, expressions, your little bits of steel

Grand explosions of a chained heart, pouring through your fear

Your only chance for freedom now – lies deep within your prison

Where no hell or heaven meet, you threw away with your decision

You bow down to the most common paper printed by machine

Offer my life over the chalk lines of where one country ends and one began

I bow to my love of all, the precious underneath

I have freedom you will not taste, with peace of mind no person can defeat.
